Reception Mastery Term by Term Overview
Our approaches to calculations:
The way in which we teach children to solve calculations may appear to be different to how ‘we’ were taught at school. Our calculation approaches show how the skills and methods develop from Reception and Year One up to Year 6. If there is ever anything that you are not sure about please do not hesitate to ask one of the class teachers and we will provide any help that you might want.
Our learning resources and environment:
From Year 1 to Year 6 we use Maths No Problem workbooks and textbooks. These are a great resource that is recommended by the DfE and is aligned with the 2014 National Curriculum. Each class also has a wide range of concrete resources and materials that the children can access in any Maths lesson to support their learning.
Our learning walls use the Connective Model (Haylock and Cockburn) approach to support the development of concept understanding and making links and connections in learning. This aims to embed learning and broaden and deepen their understanding.
